Kathleen Romagnano is Amalgamated Bank’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Director of its Retail Banking network. In addition to overseeing the operations of Amalgamated’s 22 retail branches, Ms. Romagnano will manage the Bank’s Compliance, Risk Management, Bank Operations, Information Technology, Facilities, Corporate Services and Security functions. She reports directly to President and Chief Executive Officer Derrick D. Cephas.

As the Director of Retail Banking, Ms. Romagnano spearheaded the Bank’s aggressive branch expansion strategy, opening new locations in Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx and reconfiguring several existing offices to better serve customers. She also reengineered the branch network by removing many operational tasks and fostering the development of a sales and marketing-oriented culture.

Ms. Romagnano also played a leadership role in launching products, services and systems initiatives to support the retail division’s sales efforts. Those programs broadened and deepened the Bank’s relationships with consumers and small businesses. She introduced a sales incentive plan for branch personnel as well as comprehensive training to ensure that branch managers and other support staff had the tools necessary to achieve their sales goals.

In 2009, she led the effort to launch a new home mortgage financing program at Amalgamated in partnership with PHH Mortgage.

Prior to joining Amalgamated, Ms. Romagnano was Branch Coordinator, Bank Security Act Officer and First Vice President at City & Suburban Federal Savings Bank. Overall, Ms. Romagnano has 20 years of retail banking experience. She began her career as a Branch Manager and then became a Distribution Network Manager and later was a Regional Manager at Astoria Federal Savings Bank.

Ms. Romagnano earned her Bachelor’s degree at Bernard Baruch College. She completed the National School of Banking’s two year course in managing community banks.
