Amalgamated Bank Elects Noel Beasley Chairman
Amalgamated Bank’s Board of Directors has elected Noel Beasley, a veteran union leader, as the Bank’s Chairman. Mr. Beasley, a member of Amalgamated’s Board for more than 20 years, will also continue to serve as Chair of the Board’s Trust Committee.
“I am pleased and honored that my fellow directors have chosen me to assume this important role at this point in time,” said Mr. Beasley.
Mr. Beasley also currently serves as Executive Vice President of Workers United and Manager of Workers United Midwest Regional Joint Board, which represents 16,000 workers in seven Midwestern states.
Mr. Beasley began his union work in 1974 as member of the Textile Workers Union of America’s Local 1818 in Lafayette, Indiana. He served as a shop steward and as chairman of the local’s bargaining committee. By 1977, when he joined the Union’s staff as a Business Agent for its Indiana-Kentucky Joint Board, the Textile Workers had merged with the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America to form the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU).
In 1983 he became the Manager of ACTWU’s Chicago Joint Board, and in 1986 he was elected to his present position with the Midwest Regional Joint Board. Mr. Beasley is a trustee of a number of the Union’s pension funds and health and welfare funds.
Mr. Beasley earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pepperdine College in 1966 and a Master of Arts degree from Purdue University in 1968.
