President & CEO
Amalgamated Bank

As CEO, Keith leads a team of 425 employees who are working to prove that mission-driven banking is not just possible, but a powerful force to address the social needs of our changing world.

Keith joined the Bank in 2012 and directed Amalgamated's Washington, D.C. operation where he rebulit the bank’s presence in the nation's capital. Keith was appointed CEO in June 2014. As CEO, Keith took the helm of a non-performing institution and has led the recovery of the Bank’s financial performance. Under Keith’s leadership, the bank has returned to profitability, increased credit quality, and has seen a 30% increase in net interest margin. In 2017, Keith guided Amalgamated’s acquisition of San Francisco-based New Resource Bank (NRB), creating the country’s largest values-based financial institution.

Under Keith’s leadership, Amalgamated has undertaken a number of initiatives to underscore its values-based mission, including its support of a $15 minimum wage (and its becoming the first bank to raise its minimum wage to $15 for all employees), its acceptance of IDNYC as an alternative form of ID to open a bank account, and the company’s certification as a B Corp, recognizing for-profit companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Prior to joining Amalgamated Bank, Keith served as Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). In his role at SEIU, Keith also served as a trustee on three separate Taft-Hartley funds and on the Investment Committee for the SEIU Master Trust.

His prior experience also includes serving as the first Chief of Staff of Worker's United – Amalgamated’s largest shareholder. Prior to this, Keith worked at the clothing workers union known as UNITE, where he served in various capacities including Director of Corporate Affairs, President of one of the union's locals and Executive Assistant to the International President. Keith began his career in the labor movement as a corporate researcher at the AFL-CIO.
