Amalgamated's philanthropic response

Amalgamated Bank and Amalgamated Foundation have teamed up to provide a comprehensive philanthropic response to COVID-19. As the economy grinds to a halt, the current moment has created a massive economic shock and insecurity for workers, businesses, and communities.

Amalgamated Bank and Amalgamated Foundation are leveraging financial might, social capital, and deep partnership to answer the call to action this moment requires in the following ways:

Frontline Workers Fund

The Frontline Workers Fund is designed to provide financial support for workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Resources will support personal protective equipment (PPE) to nurses and other frontline workers, domestic workers who are forced into quarantine or need extended paid leave, food industry workers who have gotten sick, and more. Check out the latest news on the Frontline Workers Fund.

Donate the Change: Frontline Workers Fund

With Amalgamated Bank’s Donate the Change® program, when you open a checking account, we’ll make a donation to provide financial support to those critical workers on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis and when you spend more than $10 on the debit card that comes with your account.

Families and Workers Fund

The Ford Foundation, Schmidt Futures, Open Society Foundations, The JPB Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Amalgamated Foundation and Morgan Stanley are launching a fund to help workers, families, and communities navigate this economic crisis. The fund will provide direct relief to families hit hard by this crisis. The fund will also support advocacy efforts to center the needs of working families in decision making on relief efforts and future economic policy.

The Emergent Fund – People’s Bailout Fund

This fund supports grassroots organizing that is focused on ensuring that resources flow to the organizations and communities most in need of support during the current COVID-19 crisis.

Emergency Cash Support for NYC Kids Rise Families

Amalgamated Bank partnered with the Gray Foundation and Robin Hood to distribute emergency cash to 1,500 kindergarten, first grade, and second grade families in the NYC Kids RISE Save for College program.

Public Policy Advocacy for Nonprofit Financial Support

Amalgamated Bank has come out strongly in support for federal relief dollars to flow to the workers most impacted and the nonprofit organizations that are supporting communities hit hard. We have joined many advocacy coalitions, issued a public letter, and spoken with decision makers about why more resources need to go directly to families and nonprofits. Specifically, Amalgamated has supported efforts to increase the SBA Payroll Protection Program and ensure that nonprofits have equitable access to those funds.

Volunteerism

Amalgamated Bank is providing time off for employees to volunteer as part of the response to COVID-19. Whether it is helping aging neighbors or fighting racial discrimination, our employees are active in helping their community weather this storm.
