Earth Day is a day to celebrate our planet.  Created in 1970, the day marks the birth of the environmental awareness and protection movement, an impact area at the cornerstone of Amalgamated’s mission.

Today we are celebrating in our New York, Washington DC and San Francisco offices with a vegetarian lunch, educational presentation, and a fun trash sorting game to engage our colleagues. We are also launching our first national Green Team, an employee-led group that will work to improve our own environmental operations and foster a culture of sustainability.

At Amalgamated, we are committed to advancing environmental sustainability through our own operations and through the clients we partner with who are inspiring action, addressing climate change and building solutions for the future. We work with companies in renewable energy, environmental nonprofits, and sustainably-minded businesses. We're net-zero and powered by 100% renewable energy. Since 2017, we have raised funds for The Solutions Project, a group working to accelerate the transition to 100% renewable energy, through our Donate the Change debit card program. We also recently became a Gold Certified Member of Green America, an award for leaders in their industries that embed environmental and social responsibility into the DNA of their company.  We were also the first US bank to commit to measuring, reporting and reducing financed emissions and aligning lending with the Paris Climate Agreement and are currently leading a group of banks to build a carbon accounting tool to combat climate change.

And while there is still work to be done, we wanted to share some words of hope from our client, Pachamama Alliance, a global community that offers people the chance to learn, connect, engage, travel and cherish life for the purpose of creating a sustainable future. They believe there are several worldwide initiatives that should give us hope for the future and how far we’ve come, including the progression of renewal energy, reduction of plastic usage, and the global movement for change that is sweeping the planet!

We hope you enjoy their video message about the reasons to be optimistic about how far our planet has come, and work with us to treat every day like it’s Earth Day.
